About the artist – Shawn Power
Television producer, Shawn Power follows his passions in the fine arts, and has created a new and innovative art form he calls “water-infused photography.”TM
Shawn Power holds a BFA from the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, CA. His emphasis in advertising, film and graphic design took him into the business world where he created TV commercials, and produced multi-media advertisements as an art director.
During those times, Shawn had emerged himself into the fine arts through his drawing, abstract painting, sculpture, pottery and photography, allowing him the opportunity to explore many mediums in order to find his artistic voice.
In 2000, Shawn started show producing and directing prime-time television reality series. Including several top interior design shows, and national real estate & international real estate programs for Home and Garden Television (HGTV). He accredits much of his success to his great attention to detail stemming from his fine art background.
Inspired and passionate about the arts Shawn stepped back into the art scene with his first exhibited juried piece selected for the Art Maui 2013 – Schaefer International Gallery at the Maui Arts and Cultural Center. Titled, “A Place In Time,” it was the first time that a “water-infused photography” fine art piece was seen in a public gallery.
Currently Shawn’s Maui studio is filled with his fine art for the new times, combining his love of photography and painting. He created a new art medium he named “Water-infused Photography,” a new kind of art form not seen anywhere in the world. His introduction of a water solution to a printed photo’s undersurface distorts the images and the layers of emulsions. An explosion of colors and shadows come to life! Organic forms and natural colors blend together, capturing the transformation of beauty in obscurity.
Shawn’s abstract images use rich pigmented inks bringing brilliant colors and depth onto large acrylic panels called ChromaPlex, and also displayed in sophisticated backlit frames called, “Luchae,” using light in a manner that presents the image in its most natural form. While gaining attention with private collectors, Shawn has released his new water-infused photography series “Shattered Thoughts.” Titles Include: Hawaiian Portal Rainbow Water Sacred Pool Lava Flow Whispering Wind
